Playtest v5 Released!

At long last, here is an update to Asphalt & Trouble!

For some behind the scenes info: I've been playtesting A&T with some publishers, so I held onto updates to make sure they had an exclusive version. In retrospect, that was probably not necessary, but I didn't want the presence of a public version to influence potential publishers' opinions.

After multiple playtests, then multiple rounds of amazing feedback, I'm ready to release this much-improved version, with 50 more pages!

Don't worry, most of the core rules are unchanged. Here's a summary of the significant changes, though:

  1. The most cascading change: Scrip has been replaced with Coffers - a measure of how many of the scarce resources the locals are willing to give you, depending on how much they like you and how much they have to spare. They are also held by the crew only, instead of individually. This mechanical and tone shift triggered a number of other changes, including:
  2. Many things have been renamed, including Inhabited Territories now being called Enclaves and Points of Interest now being called Landmarks
  3. Load is now determined by the number of coffers you have instead of being chosen at the beginning of the Ride.
  4. The Enclaves are now significantly more established, including major NPCs and specific needs. The create-your-own enclave rules still exist if you want to make your own.
  5. The corporations are much more explicitly described as well, including a timeline of the events that lead to the current fall of the Wastes (previously the Lost Plains).
  6. Landmarks now have full descriptions that tie them in more closely to the corporations and their history.
  7. Special Abilities that related to Scrip have been updated, and in some cases completely replaced, including some abilities that are now thematically off.

Here are some of the more minor changes:

  1. Removed group rolls, Instead, one person can use their Great Effect to cover other people's actions, though they might need to work together with others to get to that effect level
  2. Anywhere there were missing examples of play or rules, they have now been added
  3. Origins are thematically updated, but mechanically the same.
  4. Many of the hideout-based crew upgrades have been replaced with bike options which players can switch between during downtime.
  5. Added a cool map for you to track your turf on! Thanks to Eli for it! https://mythicgazetteer.itch.io/
