SpellSeekers

Magic is ephemeral, maleable, and powerful. Spellseekers is a game of freeform magic, each spell defined only by its one-word name. Use a 4x4 letter board (such as a Boggle board) to generate your spell list, then use your magic and wits to seek relics of great power. You define how your magic manifests, while the GM describes the risks and consequences. 

Semi-setting-agnostic: Use the default Urban Fantasy setting, or use the rules in your own setting! Based on the Forged in the Dark system.

Have a wild time for a one shot with your friends or at a convention, or string multiple sessions together and build up a hoard of relics (and enemies)!

The World Behind the Veil

Hidden in the modern world are beings and forces of great magic, concealed from the mundane by a veil. Only those who are in-the-know, such as Spell Seekers like yourselves, can pierce the veil and see the world of magic. To most, the neighbors you pass in the supermarket or the office might appear to be normal humans, but in secret they are werewolves, vampires, pixies, and so on. 

The world’s magic is ever-changing and ephemeral. Only powerful magic Relics can harness the flow of magic and project it, one letter at a time, into the minds of spellcasters. Luckily, your group has one such Relic, but each Relic can only be used once before needing to recharge. It is for that reason, or reasons of your own, that you have set out to obtain another Relic, hidden somewhere in the modern world.
